"The Space Ride"
pt.7
In this final episode for the season, Lemy & Rascal begin
working on the underground complex and the mines. What will they
encounter next?
The Mines...at last.
The weeks went by quickly, as
Lemy & Rascal went about making the underground complex where
they would live and work in for the next 12 months. They were also
hoping to meet SuperTrain one day, but Charmer and the other blue
foxes told them to be patient. While they worked, they got to know
the foxes better and very soon both of them were adopted into the
fox tribe.
"Lemy & Rascal," said Charmer. "As leader of the foxes, I welcome
you officially into our family."
The other foxes cheered as Lemy
& Rascal thanked them for their hospitality (that means for
being so kind as to let us be a part of the fox family - Rascal)
"Thank you, thank you." said Lemy to the foxes. "Now, all we need
are two tails, and to paint ourselves blue!"
"Don't be silly, Lemy." said Rascal. "Being a part of their family
doesn't mean we have to be blue or foxes."
Lemy was insistent "Well I think
it's going to be great as a blue lemur - can I have blue and gold
stripes for my tail??!" Rascal told him to stop day-dreaming and
to get on back to the work. Although Lemy didn't mention it anymore,
he still thought that it would be cool to have a blue and gold striped
tail, and one day he would actually try to do it - but that's another
story.
Anyway, the new underground complex was soon ready. Directly beneath
the foxes' aircarft hanger, were the crystal mines. However, when
Lemy & Rascal completed the entrance and doors to the mines,
the foxes grew nervous.
"What's wrong?" asked Rascal
suspiciously.
"Nothing....nothing at all," replied Boomer, one of the other foxes.
"It's just that...er....hmmm...well, you see..."
"What!!" frowned Lemy. "Is there something in there that we're
not supposed to know about?"
"Well..." said Charmer reluctantly.
"It's probably nothing at all, but long ago, we were told that there
are some huge, horrible beasts that live in the mines...and that
they actual guard the crystals."
"It's probably just a rumour." said Boomer. "Started by those who
didn't want us to get the crystals."
"And since we don't really have any use for those red crystals,"
continued Charmer, "We just didn't bother about the mines."
"Well," said Rascal sadly. "I guess we forget about the mines then,
right?
"Don't be so silly!" Lemy scolded
Rascal. "It's just rumours... for all we know, there could be a
bunch of very cuddly creatures living in the mines."
And with that, there was no further discussion on the scary things
that might live in the mines. Instead, everybody was excited about
the new exploration and what this would bring. Lemy was the first
to enter the mine tunnels, followed closely by Rascal and then a
coupleof the foxes.
Using lights attached to their helmets, they made their way down.
Just 100 metres down, Lemy found something - it was a huge red crystal,
still stuck to the wall of the mine.
"HOORAY!! We've found the crystals!" cried Lemy jumping for joy.
His excitement soon spread to all the other animals there, and before
long everybody was as excited as Lemy. As they travelled further
into the mine, more crystals were found. Lemy and Rascal moved on
ahead while the foxes started to dig out one of the crystals.
And then it happened.
It was a low growl at first.
"Err...Lemy, was that your stomach
growling?" asked Rascal.
"Nope... I thought it was you..." replied Lemy.
"Oh...oh..." they said together, as a pair of menacing eyes appeared
in front of them.
And before you could say "boiled eggs!" (which is Lemy's favourite
expression), the stripey pair dropped everything and dashed back
to where the foxes were.
"Quick!" they said. "Let's get
out of here!" The foxes didn't need a second invitation. They ran
off as fast as they could, and made it through the entrance of the
mines. The crystals were abandoned, as the animals shut the entrance
door.
"Well..." asked Charmer. "What was it?"
"We don't know," replied Rascal. "Perhaps we should go back down
to investigate?"
