| PART 2 |
|
| Previously, Lemy and Rascal returned to earth and went ahead to build this huge underground base for foxes and other lemurs and raccoons. By choosing a small deserted island, they were quite sure that nobody would be able to find them. | |
|
|
Now, having finished what they set out to do, the stripey pair sent out a secret announcement* on the Critters' National Network (CNN).Whenever an announcement is made in secret, all animals would have to use special codes in order to see the message. |
| Lemy and Rascal were quite sure that Mr Weasel would not find out because they knew that this crook was probably banned** on all animal networks on Earth. The blue foxes from planet Martoc had told them that Mr Weasel was banned on all networks across the galaxy, so they guessed it would be safe. | |
|
|
Anyway, it wasn't long before some new red foxes and their families
came to the island. These were actually the common "brown" foxes, but for
some reason, they're known as red foxes. Lemy was present to greet them on the island, while Rascal worked underground, to help the new animals settle in. |
| Apart from the foxes, some new raccoons and lemurs also came to the island. They liked the idea of building new colonies, and they were also afraid of the human hunters back in their natural homes. This time, both Lemy and Rascal welcomed them to the island, while the foxes helped the newcomers to settle in.*** |
| Lemy was especially
pleased to have other raccoons and lemurs join them on the island, because
he remembered that the last time he met his own species was when they were
on Martoc. He also remembered the girl-raccoon called Raiee, and the
girl-lemur called Lemoo who they met at Martoc. He was secretly hoping
that these two would be among the lemurs and raccoons that would come to
their new island.
But with so many new animals coming to the island, Lemy could hardly keep track of them all. There were young ones, big ones, small ones and even some very old lemurs and raccoons. |

"And why are you doing this?" asked one old lemur suspiciously, when everybody came up from their new underground homes that evening.
"That's easy," said Rascal. "When we were in the planet Martoc, we saw all those poor blue foxes in cages, and we knew then, that we would need to do something back here on Earth.
"Why?" asked a young red fox.
Rascal explained to everyone that although Mr Weasel was forced to leave all the cages behind in planet Martoc when SuperTrain came, they knew that Mr Weasel had to find other foxes, because the space zoos had already paid the crook to get them foxes. And, because SuperTrain was still in the Martoc area, Mr Weasel would never dare to try and capture blue foxes again.
So, this meant that the weasel had no choice but to come to the planet Earth, because there were foxes here.
"And what about Raccoons & Lemurs?" asked the old lemur again.
"Since we were the ones to end Mr Weasel's plans, he might look for lemurs and raccoons too," replied Lemy this time. "Mr Weasel was quite angry with us."
"Well, he won't find any of you, because you're all safe here," said Rascal confidently.
"Don't be too sure," warned the old lemur.

Some new words to learn this week:
* announcement - to tell something (news)
to a large group. You can do this either on TV, the newspapers or even on the
Net.
** banned - to ban someone means to not allow that person to do
something. For example, if you were a careless driver on the
road and cause accidents, you can be banned from driving
*** in real life, foxes may sometimes hunt lemurs or raccoons although these
smaller animals are quite fierce too. In this story
though, all of them live very happily together. If
you've read "The Animals of Farthingwood" by Colin Dann, you'd know what
we mean.
