PART 2 - The Hunters

It was now four hours since Lemy had called back to "base", and Rascal was getting a little worried about his furry friend.

"That silly Lemur - I should never have let him go alone to who-knows-where!" said the worried raccoon. He quickly assembled a team of red foxes and told them what had happened.

Ranger, the most experienced of the foxes asked some of the senior foxes to look after the base, while he and two others strapped on their jetpacks and flew off in search of Lemy.

Rascal also prepared the spacecraft that was hidden in the base and instructed* some of the other foxes to take off as well. They were all anxious about their friend and feared that he was injured somewhere out in the forest.

Using the spacecraft (that both Lemy & Rascal had built together in the earlier stories), the other foxes were able to use the radar system to track his friend.

They began their search a few miles away from the island.

 "I wonder why he hasn't used his communicator to get in touch with us?" Rascal pondered**.

"If I find out that all this panic has been for nothing, I'll really get mad!" he fumed.


Where've you been, old friend? asked Rascal anxiously.

 

 

 Although Rascal had an angry look on his face, he was actually on the verge of tears because he was very fond of his best friend, and couldn't think about what life would be like without his friend.

Suddenly, his communicator crackled into life, and Rascal heard his friend Lemy at the other end. "Hey, Rascal..." said a familiar voice. "I was beginning to wonder if you'd ever show up to find me.."

"Lemy!! You crazy lemur!" yelled Rascal over the communicator, half angry and half relieved. "You had us all worried!!"

Rascal quickly patched*** the foxes in to their conversation. Ranger and the others were very happy to hear from Lemy too.
Lemy quickly interrupted them - "Listen, I have some very important news"

(*1) instructed - to tell someone what to do.

(*2) pondered - thinking about something very seriously.

(*3) "patched" - usually an army or police term referring to linking other people by radio or walkie-talkies.
